Abstract:

One of the most extensive prehistoric find groups is pottery which is a very important source of knowledge concerning crafts, technology and specialisation. This experiment involves the reconstruction of prehistoric pottery by way of various techniques of, for example, surface treatment and tempering in collaboration with the Centre’s two potters. The aim is to create a reference collection for comparison with original pottery finds in order to determine which technique was used in prehistory.
